What goes into the Index score
Anyone can check the facts used to award points out of 100:
- Google rating, adjusted toward the country average when it has few reviews (45)
- Review count (10)
- The clinic’s own site names a surgeon (15)
- Published price (10)
- Stated methods (5)
- Match in an official register, if the country has an open one (15)
If no open register exists, only the other parts count toward the score. Full scoring method.

Published Boston hair transplant prices, grouped by graft band
For 2 clinics in Boston, the price of a hair transplant appears on their own site. For every row, a clinic is counted once at its lowest price for that row. It may appear in more than one row.
| What the clinic prices | Clinics | Median | Middle of the range |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price per graft | 2 | $4.00 | $3.99–$4.00 |
| Package, graft count not stated | 2 | $4,000 | $4,000–$4,000 |
Clinic pages provide each price in the clinic’s own wording. The figures use US dollars and the European Central Bank reference rates from November 3, 2026. When fewer than four clinics publish, “Middle of the range” includes the full range. Otherwise, it covers the middle half. A package may include a hotel and transfers; each profile uses the clinic’s own wording. ECB rates.

Methods offered and how many clinics here provide them
| Method | Clinics | How grafts are taken | Donor area afterwards |
|---|---|---|---|
| FUE | 10 | One small round punch takes single follicular units one at a time | The donor area has small dot scars spread across it, with no line |
| Sapphire FUE | 0 | The clinic’s own name for FUE using sapphire-tipped blades to make recipient cuts | As FUE |
| DHI | 1 | The clinic’s own name for FUE using an implanter pen to place grafts | As FUE |
| FUT | 10 | A strip of scalp is removed, then cut into units under a microscope. | Hair above the scar usually hides this single line. |
| Robotic | 3 | FUE with a robot-guided punch | As FUE |
With FUE, a linear scar does not remain on the donor area. By day 7–10, crusts have usually cleared (Front Med 2026 review). Across 820 advanced FUE cases, scalp harvest averaged 2,956 grafts for each case (Chouhan 2019). For this list, the counts are clinics whose own site names the method.
Published cases by Norwood stage and graft use
Using the Norwood scale, male hair loss is graded from I (none) to VII. At VII, a band at the back and sides is all that remains. In two published series, surgeons used these graft counts. They do not represent a quote for your scalp.
| Norwood stage | Grafts used | Men |
|---|---|---|
| II | 500–1,000 | 15 |
| III | 1,000–1,800 | 63 |
| IV | 1,500–3,300 | 67 |
| V | 1,500–4,000 | 13 |
The source is table 2 in Wang et al., BMC Surgery 2024, covering 158 men treated with FUE.
| Stage V–VII, area covered | Average grafts | Men |
|---|---|---|
| Front only | 2,982 | 308 |
| Front and mid-scalp | 4,164 | 352 |
| Crown only | 2,770 | 24 |
| Full coverage | 6,237 | 100 |
Source: 820 men at stage V–VII, Chouhan et al., J Cutan Aesthet Surg 2019, table 2.
A person’s stage alone does not determine the number. Once their bald areas were measured, two men classified as Norwood 3V in one study required 3,900 and 6,150 grafts (Pittella et al., 2024). A quote provided before measurement is only a guess.
Five points to settle before you book
- Find out who handles every step, from making incisions to taking and placing grafts. First get the names. Then check each one through your state medical board, or search every state at once with DocInfo.
- Ask for a written plan that gives the number of grafts, the zones, and the price for that graft count.
- Request 12-month results from the clinic’s own patients, using the same light and angle. Results appear for most people within six to nine months, while some appear at 12 (AAD).
- If growth is poor, find out what happens, including whether a second session is covered and the deadline for it.
- When pricing the first year, cover travel and time away from work, along with the procedure, medicine, and follow-up visits.
