Building the Index score

These points come from facts that anyone can check, for a total of 100:

  • Google rating, adjusted toward the country average when it has few supporting reviews (45)
  • Review count (10)
  • A surgeon listed on the clinic’s own website (15)
  • Published price (10)
  • Stated methods (5)
  • Match in an official register, if the country has an open register (15)

If no open register exists, only the other parts count toward the score. See the full method.

Published Philadelphia hair transplant prices by graft band

The websites of 2 clinics in Philadelphia publish hair transplant prices. In each row, a clinic is counted once using its lowest price for that row, though it may appear in more than one row.

What the clinic pricesClinicsMedianMiddle of the range
Price per graft1$3.99$3.99
Package, graft count not stated2$5,000$4,000–$6,000

For each price shown, we used the wording on the clinic’s own pages. Values are in US dollars under European Central Bank reference rates from November 3, 2026. The middle half of the clinics makes up the “Middle of the range,” unless fewer than four publish prices, when the full range is used. Hotels and transfers may be part of a package, and each profile presents its clinic’s wording. ECB rates.

FUE graft extraction from the donor area at the back of the scalp

Methods offered and local clinic counts

MethodClinicsHow grafts are takenDonor area afterwards
FUE11A small round punch removes single follicular units one at a timeSmall dot scars across the donor area, with no linear scar
Sapphire FUE1The clinic’s name for FUE that uses sapphire-tipped blades to make recipient cutsAs FUE
DHI1The clinic’s name for FUE that places grafts with an implanter penAs FUE
FUT6A scalp strip is removed, then cut into units under a microscope.A single linear scar, which hair above it usually hides.
Robotic3FUE with a robot-guided punchAs FUE

FUE causes no linear scar in the donor area; crusts generally disappear between day 7 and day 10 (Front Med 2026 review). Across 820 advanced FUE cases, scalp harvest averaged 2,956 grafts per case (Chouhan 2019). These counts cover only clinics here that name the method on their own site.

Published graft counts by Norwood stage

Male hair loss is graded on the Norwood scale from I (none) to VII (a band remains only at the back and sides). Surgeons used these graft counts in two published series, so they do not represent a quote for your scalp.

Norwood stageGrafts usedMen

IV1,500–3,30067
V1,500–4,00013

Stage V–VII, area coveredAverage graftsMen

Front and mid-scalp4,164352
Crown only2,77024
Full coverage6,237100

Source: 820 men at stage V–VII, Chouhan et al., J Cutan Aesthet Surg 2019, table 2.

The stage does not set the number alone. In one study, two men with Norwood 3V needed 3,900 and 6,150 grafts after their bald areas were measured (Pittella et al., 2024), so any quote before your scalp is measured is only a guess.

Five points to settle before booking

  1. Ask who handles each step: incisions, graft removal, and graft placement. After obtaining the names, check each one through your state medical board, or use DocInfo to check every state at once.
  2. Ask for a written plan that gives the graft count, the zones, and the price for that count.
  3. Ask to view the clinic’s patients at 12 months using the same lighting and angle. At six to nine months, most people see results, and some see them at 12 (AAD).
  4. Ask what happens with poor growth. Find out if a second session is included and how long that offer lasts.
  5. Price all first-year costs: the procedure, medicine, follow-up visits, travel costs, and time off work.
