Methods and the number of clinics here that offer them
| Method | Clinics | How grafts are taken | Donor area afterwards |
|---|---|---|---|
| FUE | 7 | A small round punch takes single follicular units one at a time. | The donor area has small dot scars, with no line scar. |
| Sapphire FUE | 2 | The name the clinic gives FUE, using sapphire-tipped blades for the recipient cuts. | As FUE |
| DHI | 3 | The clinic's own name for FUE, where an implanter pen places the grafts. | As FUE |
| FUT | 5 | A strip of scalp is removed, then divided into units under a microscope. | A single line scar, and hair above usually hides it. |
| Robotic | 0 | FUE with a robot-guided punch | As FUE |
With FUE, the donor area has no linear scar, and by day 7–10, crusts usually clear (Front Med 2026 review). Among 820 advanced FUE cases, scalp harvest averaged 2,956 grafts per case (Chouhan 2019). Only clinics here whose own sites name the method are counted.
Norwood stage and graft use in published cases
Male hair loss is graded I (none) to VII on the Norwood scale, and VII leaves just a band at the back and sides. Two published series report the graft numbers surgeons really used, and those counts are not a quote for your scalp.
| Norwood stage | Grafts used | Men |
|---|---|---|
| II | 500–1,000 | 15 |
| III | 1,000–1,800 | 63 |
| IV | 1,500–3,300 | 67 |
| V | 1,500–4,000 | 13 |

| Stage V–VII, area covered | Average grafts | Men |
|---|---|---|
| Front only | 2,982 | 308 |
| Front and mid-scalp | 4,164 | 352 |
| Crown only | 2,770 | 24 |
| Full coverage | 6,237 | 100 |

The stage alone does not decide the number. After bald-area assessment, two men graded Norwood 3V required 3,900 and 6,150 grafts in one study (Pittella et al., 2024). Without measuring your scalp, any quote remains a guess.
Before you book, settle these five things
- Ask who handles each step: the incisions, graft taking and graft placement. Get the names, then look up each one in the public register of the national medical council.
- Request a written plan that sets out the graft count, the zones treated, and the price tied to that count.
- Ask to see results at 12 months from the clinic’s own patients, under the same light and angle. Results show up for most people at six to nine months, and for some at 12 (AAD).
- Find out what happens with poor growth, including whether another session is covered and for how long.
- Work out the full first-year cost: the procedure, medicine, visits for follow-up, travel, and time off work.
