Hair transplant prices published for Washington, DC, set out by graft band
Their own sites show a hair transplant price at 4 clinics in Washington, DC. A clinic is counted once in each row, using the lowest price it lists there; it may show up in several rows.
| What the clinic prices | Clinics | Median | Middle of the range |
|---|---|---|---|
| Package, graft count not stated | 4 | $5,100 | $4,100–$5,950 |
Each clinic's own pages give the prices, in the wording the clinic uses. Amounts appear in US dollars, at European Central Bank reference rates dated November 3, 2026. “Middle of the range” covers half of the clinics, sitting in the middle. If fewer than four publish, it covers the full range instead. Packages may include hotel and transfers; you see each clinic’s own wording on the profile. ECB rates.
For the graft count you need in United States, the cost calculator shows the published price range.

The methods, and how many clinics here offer each one
| Method | Clinics | How grafts are taken | Donor area afterwards |
|---|---|---|---|
| FUE | 11 | Follicular units taken one at a time, using a small round punch | No line, only small dot scars across the donor area |
| Sapphire FUE | 1 | The clinic’s own term for FUE, with sapphire-tipped blades used for the recipient cuts | As FUE |
| DHI | 1 | The clinic’s own term for FUE, in which an implanter pen places the grafts | As FUE |
| FUT | 11 | A strip of scalp taken out and cut into units under a microscope | Usually the hair above hides one linear scar |
| Robotic | 4 | FUE with a robot-guided punch | As FUE |
FUE leaves no linear scar in the donor area, and crusts usually clear within 7–10 days (Front Med 2026 review). Across 820 advanced FUE cases, scalp harvest averaged 2,956 grafts per case (Chouhan 2019). We count only the clinics listed here, and only when their own site names the method.
Published cases: the Norwood stage and the grafts it took
Male hair loss is graded on the Norwood scale, which runs from I (none) to VII (just a band at the back and the sides). Surgeons actually used these graft counts in two published series; they are not a quote for your scalp.
| Norwood stage | Grafts used | Men |
|---|---|---|
| II | 500–1,000 | 15 |
| III | 1,000–1,800 | 63 |
| IV | 1,500–3,300 | 67 |
| V | 1,500–4,000 | 13 |
Source: FUE treatment of 158 men, Wang et al., BMC Surgery 2024, table 2.
| Stage V–VII, area covered | Average grafts | Men |
|---|---|---|
| Front only | 2,982 | 308 |
| Front and mid-scalp | 4,164 | 352 |
| Crown only | 2,770 | 24 |
| Full coverage | 6,237 | 100 |
Source: 820 men at stage V–VII, Chouhan et al., J Cutan Aesthet Surg 2019, table 2.
The stage on its own does not set the number. One study graded two men at Norwood 3V; after their bald area was measured, they needed 3,900 and 6,150 grafts (Pittella et al., 2024). Any quote given before your scalp is measured is a guess.
Before you book, settle five things
- Ask which person handles each part: the incisions, removing the grafts, and placing them. Collect the names, then look up each one with your state medical board, or use DocInfo to check every state at once.
- Ask for a plan in writing: the graft count, the zones, and what that number costs.
- Ask to see, at 12 months, the clinic’s own patients in the same light and angle. Results show up for most people at six to nine months, and for some at 12 (AAD).
- If growth is poor, find out whether a second session is included and how long that coverage applies.
- Cost out the whole first year: the procedure, follow-up visits, medicine, travel and time off work.
